Disappointing night in Netherton, Woodside & St Andrews, but Greens vow to come back stronger

6 May 2016

A big thank you to everybody who voted Green for us yesterday!

Sadly we had a disappointing night - we lost our seat in Netherton, Woodside & St Andrews which is a real shame. Cllr Will Duckworth has worked so hard there for so many residents and we had hoped to be able to continue that work. But we will regroup and work even harder!

One particularly pleasing result was in Belle Vale (Halesowen) where Jon Hartless gained 9.5% of the vote. We also had strong Green votes of around 5% in the three other Halesowen wards, plus Brierley Hill, Kingswinford South, Norton and Wollaston & Stourbridge Town.

Labour lost their overall majority on Dudley Council, meaning no party has overall control. Labour are the largest party but we may see an alliance between the Conservatives and UKIP. We are determined to hold whoever takes power to account, and oppose damaging cuts to public services.

The full election result for all Dudley wards can be found here.

There were some good results for the Green Party elsewhere in the West Midlands, with Solihull Greens gaining 2 new councillors taking them to 10 - they are the official opposition and doing a great job challenging the Tory administration. We also won seats in Worcester, Nuneaton, and just to the north of the Black Country, Paul Woodhead won our first ever seat in Cannock Chase.
